While there are lots of things you can give your Standard Poodle, it is important for you to determine the necessary and useful from just plain accessory. One of the things that must be included in your pet’s must-have is dog food/water bowl. These dog bowls are useful because this is where your dog eat and drink for nourishment. Since various types of dog bowls line the display shelves in most grocery stores, you should know what factors to consider before you finally shop for your precious pet’s bowl.

Color and style are usually the main concern of most dog owners. You can even have your dog’s name inscribed or painted to personalize the bowl. There are ceramic bowls, stainless steel bowls, glass bowls and plastic bowls. Just make sure that your pet is not allergic to plastic food bowls. A nose and mouth that looks red, irritated or crusty may be an indication that your pet is allergic to plastic.

For dogs with arthritis or degenerative disease, or very tall breeds, elevated food bowl is a good option for you. This type of food bowl promotes right posture for your dog, lessens backaches as well as strain in the neck and legs. Elevated food bowls also help improve your pet’s digestion and prevent bloating issue.

No matter what type of food bowl you chose - ceramic, stainless or elevated, bear in mind that bowls should be cleaned regularly to prevent germs and bacteria from forming that can make your dog sick.

The healthy benefits of elevated dog feeders are highly acknowledged by veterinarians and include the following:

  • Cleanliness and hygiene- Keeping the dog’s dining area clean is essential to a sanitary life.
  • Better posture and comfort- If a dog has a back or neck problems, a raised pet feeder will certainly help him/her to eat and drink more comfortably.
  • Easy swallowing- Imagine trying to swallow with your head down! Some dogs with mega-esophagus or other conditions find it very difficult to do so…
  • Cleanliness of dining area - Elevated dog dishes can help keeping the food and water within the bowl, instead of on the floor. Dogs tend to lift their heads after eating or drinking. As the dog raises his/ her head, the water that doesn’t get swallowed will spill onto the floor.

Health benefits

Elevated dog feeders reduce food and water gulping. Again, with an elevated dog feeder, the dog’s head being more raised as he/ she eats, gravity will draw the food down into his/ her stomach.

Elevated dog bowls are also much more comfortable for older dogs with arthritis, bad backs, or joint or muscular pain. An elevated dog dish will provide him/ her with a better eating and drinking experience.

Functionality

The stainless steel dog bowls are also light enough to be removed for easy cleaning and filling. These feeders are often outfitted with stainless steel pet bowls: stainless steel has been the material of choice for food processing, dairy and brewery industries.

Now, the right size of an elevated dog feeder should be chosen accordingly to each individual dog’s needs and height. Your dog should be comfortable, not reaching down or up while eating or drinking out of the dog feeder.

Do you have an unruly pet chewing the legs off the couch? Do you have an inside pet that just will not house train? Do harsh weather elements limit you from housing your pet outside? Do you live in an apartment, but long for a pet? If the answer is yes… you might be interested in an indoor pet kennel.

Don’t visualize an eyesore plastic crate. There is such a growing trend and demand for pet storage, that the designs have become functional and stylish. Pet kennels are being made to blend into modern décor. You don’t really loose that much space with an indoor pet kennel is made from wood.

Another option is the steel kennel. They are not as stylish, but they have convenient functions. Some brands even collapse, for easy storage. Others, offer rolling wheels and removable bottoms. If you are planning on eventually transferring your pet outdoors or are switching from indoors to outdoors seasonally, a steel kennel is the best option. Weather elements will not damage or deteriorate the steel.

A third option is a plastic indoor pet kennel. It too can be switched from indoors to outdoors, but it will show weather wear. Some brands have wheels and removable bottoms.

The best time to introduce a pet to a kennel is when they are a puppy. Introduce the older pet to the kennel slowly. Leave the pet in the kennel for thirty minutes. Eventually, the pet will seek out the kennel as a nap place and sanctuary… voluntarily.

To use an indoor pet kennel as a house breaking tool, you need to make sure the size of the kennel is not too big. If you give the pet too much room, they will defecate and urinate in the unused portions.

On the other hand, long periods of confinement is not compassionate. This turns the pets’ new home into a prison and can actually worsen behavior problems.

Are you a pet owner who feels that your dog shouldn’t be cooped up in the house all day while you’re at work or out for the evening? If so, I’m sure you’re also worried for your pet’s safety and well being. You don’t want him running away, or causing trouble around your neighborhood. So what do you do? If you’re stuck with this problem, an outdoor dog kennel may just be perfect for you.

While are many factors to consider when looking to purchase an outdoor dog kennel, there is sure to be one that is perfect for your pet. Kennels are available in all shapes and sizes, and can be portable or permanent.

Portable dog kennels can be disassembled, and taken with you if you move. The portable variety of dog kennel is, sadly, often smaller than a permanent one.

Permanent outdoor dog kennels are often bigger and sturdier, and may be the better choice if you own your home and plan to stay there a while. You can also opt to build an outdoor kennel if you wish to. If you are not experienced with carpentry and/or landscaping, it may be best to have someone else build the kennel for you.
